Snowfall forecasts with inch by inch accumulations will first focus on a statewide level.
City and county forecast maps will
be issued 24 hours in advance of
each storm. These maps are
updated every 6 hours.
Slight Risk for Severe Weather this afternoon across all of Northeast Illinois. Primary concdern is development of squall line.
Fast moving squall line expected to move 45-50 mph from the west to east between 1 and 3pm. Brief heavy rain and gusty winds up to 60-70 mph will occur for a 5-10 minute period.
No tornadoes or large hail is anticipated. Gusty winds primary
concern. Storms should clear lakefront by 2:45pm. Dismissal and after-school outdoor activities should go ahead as planned.

event. This will give you and your staff
what type of overall impact is expected.
Local Snow Forecast is most critical in
decision making process. This map will
be updated every 6 hours with highly
detailed and "hyper-local" information
that you cannot get on demand
anywhere else. Site specifics forecasts
and timing is available by phone.
Basically an outlook that can be from 12 to 24 hours in advance of most, but not all, severe weather events. This map is designed to be a "first guess".
A much more detailed product. This will be updated at 8am and 1pm. This will allow staff to have a first hand at conditions as soon as they arrive and then following noon recess or lunch.
This is the most important product before actual radar data is used. This will enable staff to put into plan any necessary actions to become STORM READY if significant severe weather does occur.
